Polonius was a self absorbed, strict, dull father that only cares about what others think of him.
From what I know about the character Polonius from the acts I read so far, his long boring statements indicate that he is naturally boring and that is not a good trait for a father to have. He is also strict and a bit paranoia in the way he always keep tabs on his children, trying to prohibit their freedom. Sometimes, kids with boring strict fathers become fearful or runaways because of the pressure and boredom. Most kids and young adults can't handle everything being controlled by someone. To top it all off, he is somewhat cruel to his daughter Ophelia, subtly stating that she is not smart or reasonable. Some quotes that really prove these statements
- Polonius: "Affection, puh! You speak like a green girl"(Green = Gullible)
- Polonius: "You do not understand yourself so clearly" (105)
- Polonius: "Tender yourself more dearly....you'll tender me a fool" (116-118)
